These are both the quadrifoglio range-topping versions which make this fight even more thrilling to watch.
Alfa Romeo is back and better than ever. The Giulia and Stelvio are helping to achieve even greater success. The Quadrifoglio models represent the best of the range. These trims aren’t generating a lot of sales volume but they keep the company excited and continue its tradition of making fast vehicles. Motor1.com’s Italy team was able to test this SUV and sedan along a quarter mile of central Italy’s airport runway.
Quadrifoglio Stelvio, Giulia use a 2.9-liter biturbo engine that produces 505 horsepower (377kilowatts), and 443 poundfeet of torque. They also use an eight-speed auto gearbox. The main difference is in how the power reaches the roads. The Giulia sedan sends all its power to the rear wheels while the Stelvio has all wheel drive.
The Giulia is lighter than the Stelvio, weighing in at 331 pounds (150 kg).
It was a lot of fun for our Italian colleagues to run several practice runs before the race. It was cold, with temperatures hovering around 32°F (0°C). The runway was dampened by a humid night. The conditions made launch control slower, which was eventually discovered by the drivers. It came down to the drivers controlling the vehicle’s speed with their right foot and feeling the road.
Although the video is in Italian you don’t have to know the language to understand the Quadrifoglios racing down the runway. You can see the video to see if the lighter sedan can outperform its sibling with better traction.
