Chevrolet has published final specifications for the 2012 Camaro ZL1.

The original estimate by the company was that the supercharged V8 engine of 6.2-liter capacity would produce 550 horsepower (410 kW/ 557 PS), but in reality it produces 580 HP (432 kW/ 588 PS) as well as 556 lb.ft (754Nm) of torque.

The engine features a unique induction system, a better air intake, and a higher efficiency intercooler to achieve these impressive figures. The car also features an electric power steering system that consumes less power than conventional hydraulic systems.

The standard transmission is a Tremec TR-6060MG9 manual. It boasts a dual-mass flywheel and twin-disc clutch. Triple synchros allow for precise, smooth shifts. You can choose to not exert yourself with an optional six-speed manual. It has three modes: Drive (daily commute), Sport (aggressive driving) or Manual (no automatic down shifts).

A high-performance fuel system, rear-differential cooler and Magnetic Ride Control 3.0 (dual coil magnetorheological dampers), are just a few of the highlights. This system adjusts the launch control, magnetic ride control, and traction control to optimize performance.

Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer, stated that the ZL1 has more horsepower than a Ferrari458 and more torque than an Aston Martin DB9. It also offers a higher power-to-weight ratio compared to a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.
