Chevy celebrates the fourth anniversary with trail-focused and street-focused models.
The 2015 model year saw the launch of the Chevrolet Colorado. The current model is nearly half of a million trucks larger than the original-generation model. Buyers responded by spending hard-earned money. Chevrolet has created a pair special edition models to celebrate this milestone. They are aimed at both off-road enthusiasts and people who enjoy cruising on the streets.
The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Runner will be the ultimate off-road vehicle. It is a hybrid between the Z71 standard and ZR2 more aggressive Z71, which has stamped aluminum underbody skid plates in the front and middle. This provides additional rocker protection. The package also includes aggressive Goodyear off-road tires.
The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado RST is on the reverse. These letters are also found on the Tahoe and Suburban street-oriented editions, as well as the Silverado pickup. The RST package, which Colorado uses, is purely cosmetic and adds a monochromatic accent to the otherwise LT-trimmed exterior. It’s also equipped with RST badges and the first Colorado vehicle to be fitted with 20-inch wheels.
The Chevrolet-branded grille, borrowed from the ZR2 Bison, makes these special edition trucks easily identifiable. Chevrolet wants you to know that the grille can be upgraded for $395 on any Colorado model.
“The success in Colorado helped revive the midsize truck segment which grew 27 percent between 2015 and 2017,” stated Sandor Piszar (director of marketing for Chevrolet Trucks). It changed the expectations of customers about a midsize truck and brought new customers to Chevrolet. This has also inspired other competitors to follow Chevy’s example.
These two new models join an expanding stable of Colorado models, which includes the Z71 and ZR2 Bison.
