Today, we race two Chevy’s new configurations 2020 2500 Silverado. One corner features the 2020 Silverado 2500 base model. It uses the new 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine that produces 404 horsepower, and 464 lb.ft of torque. We also have the High Country trim, which is the highest-end model. 2020 Silverado 2500HD This new Duramax Turbo-Diesel 6.6L Duramax V8 engine produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb.ft.
The biggest difference between these trucks is not only their engines but also their transmissions. The base gasoline-powered truck has a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is a leftover from the previous generation. Diesel trucks use the new Allison 10-speed manual transmission. Because of its wider range of gear ratios, the diesel’s modern transmission helps accelerate better. Andre from TFLT tests both trucks in 2WD and 4WD. This is to determine if there is a significant difference in how the 4WD truck launches. The Diesel finished the 2WD run from 0-60 in 8.05 seconds, while the Silverado with gas powered ran 9.05 seconds. The diesel took the win with a time of 7.90 seconds, while the Silverado was unable to match that time.The 2020 Silverado 2500HD will come with an optional diesel engine that adds $10,000 to its price.
