Chevrolet has unveiled their new LT1 V8 motor, which will be featured in the 2014 Corvette.
The fifth-generation small block, which weighs in at 6.2 liters, features direct injection, continuous variable valve timing, and an 11.5 to1 compression ratio. There’s also a “Runners in a Box” intake manifold, a variable-displacement oil pump and a specially designed exhaust system.
According to the company, the engine will produce approximately 350 bhp (336kW) and 450lb-ft (609Nm) of torque. The Corvette should be able to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in under four seconds.
Despite being more powerful that the LS3 V8, LT1 will still be more efficient due to cylinder activation technology. The engine activates four-cylinders under low loads to allow the Corvette to return 26+ mpg highway (US).
