On the back, a solid oak camper is now located. The interior has enough space for sleeping and a small kitchenette.
The popularity of Overlanders is growing rapidly. They combine a four-by-4 vehicle to get off-road and a sleeping place once they reach their preferred spot in the wilderness. This 1942 Chevrolet Army truck camper conversion is a great example of this concept. You can purchase the vintage machine at Mecum’s Las Vegas auction in October and take it on an adventure.
These Chevy 4×4 trucks were used during World War II as part of the G506 military classification and could transport 1.5 tons of equipment to the front lines. This particular one was a G7117, which denoted a cargo body with winch. The rig was converted into a camper at some point in the post-war period. It has a solid oak section with brass hardware and engraved wood details. Mecum’s photos don’t show the interior, which includes a kitchenette and a sleeping area.
The work includes the 350-cubic inch (5.7-liter), camper section as well as a V8 of 350 cubic inches that replaces the original 3.9 liter OHV six from WWII. It runs through a 4-speed manual and has four-wheel drive.
The Chevy has a burgundy-colored body. This machine comes with everything you need to set up camp for the night. It has a shovel, jack and an axe mount on the side. Dual air horns are loud enough to scare away any animals that really bother you.
Mecum expects the vintage camper to fetch between $45,000- $55,000. The Las Vegas sale will take place from November 15-17. If the buyer decides to take this Chevy home, they don’t have to worry about finding a hotel.
