Chevrolet should build it.
The current Chevrolet lineup only offers one van. The Express van is that model, and it hasn’t seen an updated model since 1996. Even though the van is 27 years old, it still has a new engine for 2020. However, it continues to be the only Chevrolet-branded vehicle of its type.
Chevy still had more vans, including the Venture and Astro. In 2004, the Venture was discontinued and was replaced by the Uplander in 2009. The Astro, however, survived for another year. In 2005, the’midi-van’, as General Motors called them, had completed 20 years of production.
Although the Astro is no longer in production for 17 years, it still has a loyal following. It’s still considered a truck chassis and all-wheel drive. So, is GM going to revive the Astro? Or should it just go away? YouTube channel TheSketchMonkey investigated this option. He digitally re-initialized it as an electric vehicle van.
TheSketchMonkey took inspiration from the Silverado EVO to update the Astro. He also updated the lines and removed the body cladding. Although the design brief may seem simple, there are many more aspects to it than just grafting a new face onto an old van.
After some scaling, it’s surprising that the nose of the electric Silverado fits in well with the Astro. The previous Astro vans were the corporate face of the era. From the flat front of the 1985- 1995 models to the split grille appearance of the later models, it was the former. The Chevrolet badge is the only flaw in this rendering. The logo is angled to the left, not the right. It’s still a new take on the long-extinct van.
