It’s not a ridiculous claim considering the cargo box volume that can hold up to 89 cubic yards.
“The bed is the heart of any pickup. So we made many improvements to the bed on the all-new Silverado so our customers have an even better hauling experience,” stated Tim Herrick (executive chief engineer, Full-Size Trucks), General Motors.
We couldn’t agree with you more. Without its truck bed, a pickup truck is not a pickup truck. It’s like Iron Man with his suit. He can still be a genius billionaire playboy and philanthropist but without his favorite suit, he can’t save the world.
It’s great for Chevrolet and the 2019 Silverado to lift up the truck bed. It has the highest cargo volume, box depth and box length at the floor of any competitor. Every Silverado model year 2019 increased its bed size by at minimum 10 cubic feet. The 2018 Silverado has 53 to 62 and 75 cubic feet respectively for its standard, long, and short boxes. The 2019 model has 63, 73%, and a staggering 89 cubic feet.
It is worth noting that the Ford F-Series truck’s cargo box volume is 53 cubic feet in its short-box variant. The standard box and long-box volumes are 62 and 77.5 cubic feet. The RAM 1500 is also on the same ground. The Silverado is now 20 percent larger than its rivals. This was achieved by seven inches increasing the bed floor. Silverado has a 3-inch wider bed for the short-box variant and a 1-inch deeper bed across all variants.
The upgrades go beyond size. The Silverado also features 12 fixed tie-downs, plus 9 moveable, and an exclusive power up/down tailgate that leads its category. The Silverado’s truck bed is functional and well lit thanks to the 110/120-volt power outlet and in-bed lighting.
For the construction of the bed, a higher quality steel is used – 500 megapascal. Comparatively, the Ford F-Series uses aluminum while Ram 1500 uses high-strength steel 340-MPa.
