It’s stock, except for the race rubber.
We’ve already seen some videos of Corvettes on the drag strip. The Complete Street Performance YouTube video is quite different. This car does a quarter-mile in a bone stock trim. We mean that the mechanicals used in this car are factory stock. However, the C8 is using sticky drag tires. This clip clearly shows that extra grip and more weight on the rear wheels are a winning combination for hard launches.
Cecil County Dragway, Maryland is located at 340 feet above the sea level. This means naturally aspirated engines are able to breathe plenty of oxygen, which is why this Corvette makes good use of it on multiple runs. The first past, which ran at 124.95 mph in 10.92 seconds, was actually the fastest. The Corvette won the first past with a 1.61 60-foot time.
However, this was not a simple test and tune session. C8 pilot entered bracket racing competition. This requires consistent times and quick off-the line reactions. The Corvette won both the first and second rounds. In the heat, times slowed to just 11 seconds in the heat and there were shorter breaks between runs. But does the driver win the final round? The video will tell the story.
Although impressive, these times for 0-60 and quarter mile aren’t too far from Chevrolet’s official figures of 2.9 seconds & 11.2 seconds. It will be exciting to see how fast the C8 goes as more powerful factory Corvettes are introduced in the coming years.
