Chevy Corvette Z06C8 Sounds Amazing at The Nurburgring

Simply listen!

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06C8 continues its lap of the Nurburgring in pursuit of development. The spy video shows a few of them at the track and gives a great overview of the car’s sound.

The Z06s shown in this video have large wings on their backs, while others have only a small spoiler at the rear. Chevy may offer an option package for the Z06 that includes the large aerodynamic piece and other improvements to improve performance. It is not known if Chevy will do so.

All of the Z06s sound great, regardless of what is attached to it at the rear. According to all rumors, the model will use the C8.R-race car’s 5.5-liter V8. The mill is equipped with dual overhead camshafts. The engine is said to have a flat-plane crankshaft and can rev up to 9,000 rpm. It could produce 617 horsepower (460 megawatts).

Transmission shifts are also lightning fast. The Tremec-sourced gearbox is shown in this video by someone who was climbing underneath one of the development cars. It has a magnesium case which could help to save weight.

Recent spy photos show that the Z06 is riding on sticky 345/25 ZR21 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup II R rear tires. At the Nurburgring, cars were tested with wheels that had either five thick spokes or seven pairs of Y-shaped spokes. Chevy may be working on a performance-focused option package, as the two designs could hint at this.

The Z06 new will be unveiled in the fall . The timing of the unveiling is perfect, so there’s speculation it could take place at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show in October. The model will not be available in showrooms until 2022.
