The automaker also gave the 16-year old a big check.
Riley Leon, a 16-year old who survived a tornado in Texas has been awarded the Chevy Silverado. The ceremony took place at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet, Fort Worth, Texas. Chevrolet also gave Leon and his family a $15,000 check.
Leon’s parents Elvia Leon Martinez, and Alfonso Zamora attended the turnover ceremony, as well as Erick Macias (Chrysler South Central Region Manager), Randall Shapiro (Chrysler South Central Regional Director), and Erick Macias (Chrysler South Central Region Vice President).
Chevrolet made the promise that it would replace the truck via a tweet last Wednesday, along with a $50,000 donation for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. This will help in Texas’ recovery efforts.

Leon received the keys to a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT All-Star Edition Cherry Red. On his way to an interview on another Silverado, he was struck by a tornado.
The video of the encounter was taken on and circulated last week. The footage showed Leon’s pickup truck being engulfed by a tornado in Elgin, Texas. The truck was then spun and tossed onto its side.
Although the extent of the damage was not apparent, the truck drove slowly away from the scene for a few seconds. Although Leon sustained a cut to his arm, he was otherwise unharmed by the ordeal. It was a very memorable experience for Leon, and Chevy hopes that he will have new experiences aboard his new Silverado — hopefully not with another tornado.
“When Riley’s Chevy silverado was struck by 100 mph winds it was put to the test. He was able to get away unscathed. Chevrolet posted a photo on social media stating that he was looking forward to making memories with his new truck.
