Chevy revives Cavalier badge in China

Chevy will resurrect the Cavalier badge after an 11-year absence for a new model, which will be sold only in China.

Ford’s well-known ” Elscort” moniker was revived a while back and Chevy is now bringing back an old name that should stir old emotions among Americans. The new Cavalier, although it is a China-only model looks very American. It almost looks like a smaller, more humble Cruze. The model will be placed below the Cruze, and it will be 4.5 inches shorter with a narrower wheelbase. Chevy will offer the 2016 Cavalier equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces 107 horsepower and is available in a six-speed manual transmission or an optional automatic transmission. The entry-level models will have 15-inch wheels, while the higher-end trims will be equipped with 16-inch alloys. Manufacturers are releasing models that will only be sold in China’s vast car market. Chevy is keen to get in on the small sedan market. These models are based on revised platforms from older models, which means that companies don’t have to spend much money on R&D. The new Cavalier will be available in China in the second half. It will compete with the Ford Escort which is unlikely to sell elsewhere.
