The supercar could be on the horizon by the end of this year.
The Chevy dealers across the country will be meeting in Las Vegas this week. According to Corvette blogger, Nate Chandler, a New York-based dealer, claimed to have seen the long-rumored mid engine Corvette.
Chandler visited Corvette Forums in order to share what he saw. He wrote, “I just left GM/Chevy’s General Session Presentation at the “Find New Roads Dealer’s Conference at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.” We were able to see the C8 Corvette. It’s coming. It was called a supercar by GM. Although the two photos we took were very limited, I was able to see the production car. It certainly looked mid-engined. I was reminded of a Lotus by the front hood. The front bumper cover reminded of the 2019. It’s time to party at the reception. I’ll ask questions and report back to Brian Sweeny (U.S. VP for Chevy), if I meet him.
Chandler’s post was well-received by other users, who asked a variety of questions. Chandler shared an interesting fact that contradicts other reports. He said that we should expect a teaser picture fairly soon and that a public announcement will be made later in the year. After the Corvette’s mid-engine Corvette didn’t appear at the Detroit Auto Show, we reported that Chevy would not unveil the car until January 2019.
Chandler said that the hood reminded him of a Lotus, or possibly a McLaren. It appears to be smaller than the current-gen C7 Corvette and is also lower. Chandler also pointed out that the hood didn’t appear to have vents.
Chandler also mentioned that a performance-electric vehicle is currently in development. It looked very much like an SUV, Chandler stated. Perhaps Chevy is learning from Ford’s electric Mustang crossover.
Chandler’s post is the latest mid-engine Corvette news over the past few months. We have seen CAD images and test mules. We are seeing evidence that a mid-engine Corvette will soon be available.
