Chris Harris drives the Very First Porsche

It all started with the Porsche Type 64.

What was it like to drive the first Porsche. Volkswagen’s parent company has evolved into one of the most famous and beloved car companies in history. You will never forget the thrill of driving the original car.

It would be surreal, we are certain. It’s almost like riding in your first plane or using your first camera. Chris Harris put it this way: it’s just like knowing the ingredients for making the first Coca-Cola.

Ferdinand Porsche’s first Porsche, the Porsche Type 64, was actually built before the Gmund-built 352. It was built in 1939 and was inspired by the Volkswagen Beetle . However, it is lighter, more aerodynamic, and faster than the Volkswagen Beetle .

It also features the same engine as the People’s Car – a 1.0 Liter flat-four that produces 32 horsepower at 88 mph. It’s not much but it is amazing that a car from 1939 could produce such a power output. Aside from that, the Type 64 was built using aircraft technology. This offsets the lack of power and budget needed to create larger and more powerful engines.
