Camouflage is gone.
Motor1.com invited to ride shotgun in the prototype 911 GT3 but the car still had camouflage in some areas. This new video by Top Gear shows the disguise being removed. Chris Harris was able to get a quick view of the car’s rear and front ends thanks to Andreas Preuninger (head honcho for GT cars).
We get to see both the bumpers in their final form, as well as the rear wings and front air vents. This appealing blue shade will likely be the launch color once the 911 GT3 is fully revealed. It will also include a color-matching wheel lip, and contrasting red brake discs.
You might not like the look-at me rear wing. Porsche will release a new Touring model. Spy shots show prototypes with a simpler rear end design. There might also be a ducktail spoiler for a retro-flavored version, possibly bearing the “Classic” suffix.
The flat-six engine will be naturally aspirated and produce 510 horsepower. It has a 4.0-liter displacement. This is a 10 horsepower increase over the 911 GT3. You can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK. The automatic model will have a manual-like shifter mounted on the transmission tunnel. Why? Preuninger does this because he likes to shift gears on PDK-equipped Porsches.
The brakes will be larger than ever before, and an optional ceramic composite set will be available for increased stopping power. Flat-six will deliver 346 pound-feet (469 Newton meters) of torque to the 911 GT3 and allow it to reach 60 mph (96 km/h). This can be done in just three and a quarter seconds.
Expect the Porsche 911 GT3’s starting price to be around $145,000 when it goes on sale in 2021.
