Chrysler Airflow Electric EV could be ‘closer than you think’ to production

Stellantis Software Day presented the concept prominently.

In a long presentation dubbed EV Day, Stellantis gave the world a glimpse of its electrified future. A curious white concept car with a Chrysler emblem was among all the charts and figures. It’s obvious that it is an evolution of the Airflow Vision concept, which Chrysler revealed in 2020. However, we were given only a glimpse.

Software Day is a special Stellantis event. The conglomerate revealed its plans to transform into a tech company and a car company. It also presented a strategy for in-house development of software and computer systems that will, in theory , bring Stellantis an additional 20 billion USD in revenue by 2030. The same tech was shown in July, but we now that it is called Airflow.

While the concept was used as a background during the Software Day presentations, the segment with Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares driving an Airflow took center stage midway through. The video is set to begin when the segment starts, and you know the result? It appears to be production-ready.

Although the video doesn’t go into detail about the concept, we can see the Airflow from multiple angles inside and outside. This shows a five-passenger crossover with an open cockpit, which looks fully functional. Yves Bonnefont, Stellantis Chief software Officer, introduced the segment by saying that it was closer than you think and more than a simple concept.

Stellantis is planning to launch a new range of battery-electric vehicles, as we know. Chrysler is looking for something fresh and different. The Pacifica minivan, which is available in both standard and hybrid trims, is a solid offering. A new EV with smart styling may be the perfect solution to revive the iconic brand. The 300sedan is the only other Chrysler product. The Airflow name is also associated with Chrysler’s 1930s-era full-size Chrysler model. It was designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency and was a striking example of Chrysler’s original design.

Could this be the moment when Chrysler unveils a new, aerodynamically-efficient EV? Stellantis will make another major announcement at the spring’s 2022 Consumer Electronics Show. Stellantis will be well on its way to 2024 if these dates fail to produce results.
