2003 was the last time that we saw a new Voyager minivan on American soil. The original name of the Plymouth Voyager was Chrysler . This moniker was changed to Chrysler in 2001 when the Plymouth brand was discontinued. This was a difficult decision, though, as Chrysler already had the Town & Countryminivan. Despite the history lesson, Chrysler’s entry-level minivan is back in service, replacing the lower trims from the well-known Pacifica.

This does not mean that this is an entirely new Chrysler product. We mean that it will replace the base Pacifica LX and LX trims. Literally The Pacifica badge will be replaced. It is identical on all fronts, down to the standard seven-passenger seating and the 287-horsepower engine under the hood. The third Voyager LXi model is still available, but it will be used only as a fleet vehicle, with leatherette seats and other cool items that might appeal to rental customers.

FCA’s decision to revive the Voyager brand name is not known. Questions about the decision were not addressed at today’s Michigan media event. The name has some meaning as it marks the beginning of the minivan’s age. It was launched in 1984 with the Dodge Caravan, so there is some brand recognition. It is not yet known what the Voyager’s cost or when it will go on sale.
