Yesterday, Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler, confirmed that both the 2012 Alfa Romeo Giulia as well as the 2013 Alfa Romeo Spider would be built on Chrysler platforms. The Giulia is available in two versions, the sedan and wagon. The 159 will be available in sedan and wagon versions.

Both the Spider and the Giulia are expected to be rear-wheel-drive cars. It could be built on the Chrysler LX platform. This platform was previously used on the Dodge Magnum wagon and the Chrysler 300 sedan. This platform was also used to create the 2007 Chrysler Nassau concept.

The Dodge Challenger currently uses a shorter version, the LC platform. This platform was also the basis of the 2009 Chrysler 200C EV Concept. The LX is usually used on cars with a 120-inch (304.8 cm) wheelbase. Cars with the LC, however, have a shorter wheelbase of approximately four inches (10cm).

Although shorter than the Fiat C–EVO platform, the LC’s wheelbase is about a foot longer when used on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Since 1995, Alfa Romeo cars have not been mass-produced in the United States. With the Alfa Romeo MiTo, sales will resume in America next year.

The Pininfarina Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta Concept was unveiled in Geneva last March. The concept was inspired by the Alfa Romeo Duetto and Pininfarina’s 1980 birthday. It also serves as a design suggestion for the new Spider.
