The segment leader is not even in the same league as both pickups.
Ford dominated the truck sales charts during the coronavirus epidemic. This was even before the launch of the new F150. It managed to outsell Chevrolet, Ram, and the situation is similar for the midsize pickup segment. But there is one important difference.
The Ford Ranger sold 25,008 units during the second quarter, but its main competitor, the Chevy Colorado, registered 19,843 deliveries. This is a drastic drop of 37.3 per cent compared to last year. The Ranger saw a 68.1 percent increase in sales.
However, both models were far behind the leader in this segment. The Toyota Tacoma It remains the top-selling midsize truck, with 51,062 sold, which is down 19.8 percent from Q2 2019. This is more than twice as many sales of the Ranger, despite it increasing in sales dramatically and the Tacoma losing some share because of the crisis.
The Jeep Gladiator came in third with 19,568 sales. This was just 275 ahead of the Chevrolet according to GoodCarBadCar. With 8,794, the Nissan Frontier was followed by the Honda Ridgeline, which saw 6,380 deliveries in the second quarter.
Between January and June, Toyota sold 104.698 Tacoma models, compared to 45.988 for Ranger and 41.273 for Colorado. The Gladiator has 34,827 delivery, followed by Frontier with 19,074 sales.
