In both design and execution, the Porsche 959 is a landmark. These rare examples fetch seven-figures and more at auction. A car that is nearly 30 years old will be a sign of its age. There are only 292 Porsches ever made, so it can be difficult to keep them in top shape. This is unless Bruce Canepa, an exotic vehicle dealer, would agree.

A $750,000 package is offered by him to restore your Porsche 959 into a modern supercar. It seems unbelievable until you get into the details. This isn’t just a quick wash and new spark plugs.

Canepa explained Road & Track that this would take 4000-plus hours, plus parts and materials. “At this stage, we are taking apart every component and disassembling it and making sure it looks like new.”

Canepa will pick a color, and Canepa and his company will take down the 959 and strip it to the tub. Then they’ll paint the car in the owner’s choice of color. All metal parts of the car are given new zinc plating and their interiors are re-trimmed with new leather. This is not all.

Canepa uses the 2.85-liter flat-6 and its measly 475 horsepower to power the engine. The engine is then turned up to 763 HP and 635 lb-ft of torque. A host of modifications were made to increase power, including the removal of the factory sequential turbo system and the installation a new parallel twin-turbo system using turbos from Borg-Warner. The upgraded fuel system includes a modern engine management, new wiring harness, high output ignition, an upgraded alternator and a new stainless steel exhaust.

With an upgraded suspension, the new powertrain helps to put down power. The 959 Sport Canepa, as it is officially known, receives modern dampers and titanium springs. New 18-inch magnesium wheels are being made by the original wheel supplier to accommodate new Michelin performance tires.

According to the publication, 10 customers have chosen to give their Porsche 959 Sport Canepa treatment so far. It’s like having a spa day for your car, but it will cost you at least six figures. Canepa can source one for you or you can provide your own 959. It doesn’t matter what, that’s quite a large amount of money. But if you have the means to pay it off, it’s likely worth it.
