Conan O’Brien’s 1992 Ford Taurus SHO is Still Alive

We are starting to suspect that he still loves his SHO.

It should be noted, for the record that some Motor1.com members have a soft spot to the old Taurus SHO. This puts us in good company or at least makes us laugh with Conan O’Brien, longtime late-night talk-show host. This gag has been a running gag since Conan O’Brien was the Late night host at NBC.

It has been so long since we last saw the car that we almost forgot about it. It suddenly appeared on TBS’s insurance program, and we could not talk to it. This vehicle, which is 26 years old, is a true classic. Even though the hood is not opened, it is clear that there isn’t a dull Ford V6 under the hood. Instead, there is a Yamaha-built 24-valve V6. This was what made these cars great sleepers back then.

Conan would like us to believe that the car is old and not holding up. However, knowing a lot about old SHOs we know the exact opposite. These old Fords’ headlights can fade quite dramatically when exposed to sunlight, but the lenses of this car are still very clear. There is no bubbling visible in the trim around the windows, which is another sign of a neglected SHO. We can see that the driver’s seat is still in great condition when he opens it. They are not as damaged as they are on older cars.

We are not suggesting that he puts the car in a sealed compartment with guards at the door. The black mirrors and bpillars are particularly dull. The doors have scratches, but this is actually due to the SHO-specific Cladding. This can be easily replaced in a matter of minutes with a simple wrench.

We are happy to know that Conan, a car guy, owns and loves an old Taurus SHO.
