L’eau d’Infiniti. Infiniti’s “Essence” concept is a brand personification. The Essence, which was presented this week at Geneva Motor Show, showcases Infiniti’s core values and celebrates the brand’s history. The Essence will bring Infiniti’s “Inspired Performance” into the luxury super-coupe marketplace for the first time. It aims to re-establish Infiniti as one of the most exciting brands in the world and position it towards the top.

The Essence is Infiniti’s first motor-show preview of the hybrid petrol/electric powertrain. The combination of the twin-turbo V6 engine with the new 3D electric motor from the company delivers 600 PS to a rear wheel-drive system. The electric motor produces an equally powerful 160 PS. This technology is based on optimizations to the layouts of the permanent magnets and electromagnetic coils. It reduces the size of the lithium-ion batteries and increases their output.

However, the essence of the concept needs to be explored further. Shiro Nakamura Senior Vice President of Design, states that the Essence isn’t about success or wealth. It is a “driver’s car”, but not an aggressive sports car. Infiniti’s Dynamic Adeyaka is said to be inspired by design from the natural and human worlds. It brings a new dynamic and classical shape to the brand that has not been seen in its 20-year history.

The cabin of the Essence can be used as a driver’s vehicle, while the cabin is used as a passenger’s vehicle. The interior design features two distinct ‘cocoons’: the black driver’s side and earthy red passenger side. Designers claim that the secret tech is what makes the interior’s design so magical. It allows for minimalism to replace information overload and controls. Louis Vuitton has created a special range of luggage for the concept car. This is a nod to the original partnership with coachbuilders in 1908.

The 20th anniversary of the brand coincides with the Essence, which is Infiniti’s platform for the three pillars (driving pleasure and hospitality) and takes Infiniti forward to their current challenge: entry into the European market.
