To purchase the production car, you will need to relocate to Brazil.
The 2018 Sao Paulo International Motor Show has begun and Volkswagen will be there to display its Tarok pickup truck idea as well as this subcompact sedan. Although this one is officially billed as the concept car, the production version should be very similar. What is it? Virtus is the sedan version of the Polo supermini, which is available in Latin America. “GTS” is a more refined GTI.
Although the styling is very similar to the hot hatch, the engine under the hood is not. The Polo GTI has a turbocharged 2.0 liter gasoline engine that produces 200 horsepower and 320 Newton meters (236 pound-feet of torque), while the Virtus GTS uses the 1.5-liter TSI unit, which is rated at 150 hp (184 lb.ft) and 250 Nm (236 pound-feet). You can also find this engine in Europe on the Polo’s lower versions.
The gearbox options are another big difference between these closely related models. VW allows Euro buyers to choose between a six speed manual or a six speed DSG. The Virtus GTS, however, will go auto-only and leave the manual in place.
The gallery below shows the Polo GTS hatchback concept in Brazil. It also has the same oily bits as the one in the gallery. VW will provide the dynamic duo with all of the bells, whistles, and options right from the beginning. The goodies include everything, from a digital instrument cluster with an 8-inch touchscreen and a rearview camera to rain, light sensors.
The GTS trim will be the top-of-the-line version of the Polo hatchback or the Virtus sedan. Both are made in Brazil by VW at the Sao Carlos Plant. These two new models will be available locally in the coming year.
