Confirmed: BMW i3 and i8 won’t get direct successors

Many believe that the BMW HTML3 or i8 is the best-selling battery-powered car from Bavaria. Both models are old and need to be updated. There are many modern models that offer greater performance and range.

BMW A few weeks back, it seemed that the had an answer. Vision M Next Concept at Munich, Germany. It’s a peek at the next-generation of the i8 with its wedge shape, and design cues. It was what we hoped for, but it isn’t.

BMW’s director for development Klaus Frolich stated that the Vision M Next Concept will not be the successor to the i8 production coupe. The i3 and the i8 will not get any successors.

Frolich stated that M is “fast and furious, and fun” and that there is no direct successor to the i3 or i8. This was according to a report from Australia’s CarSales.com.

Frolich also stated that pure i cars were one-offs. This means they are made specifically for a specific purpose and not as a series of cars.

Frolich confirmed that the Vision M Next Concept will be in production within three years. The BMW honcho views it as a hybrid sportscar that performs like an EV. He did not rule out the possibility that there will be a pure-electric M vehicle, but this is unlikely in the near future.

Frolich stated that the Vision M Next’s maximum weight is 3,748 lbs (1,700 kg). However, the concept vehicle was much smaller than that in Munich.
