Confirmed: C7 Corvette ZR1 Didn't Beat 7-Minute 'Ring Lap Time
It can do better.

We have not yet heard of any Nurburgring lap times. We have only seen a few cars racing on the famous German track, and read various speculations about their performance. Today we have some official confirmation that the range-topping Corvette ZR1 registered a time in 7:04 minutes.

This is a former Corvette test driver, ride/handling engineer Jim Mero. He now runs a company that calibrates the Magnetic Ride Control for 2009-2013 Corvette C6 Corvettes. Jim Mero Vehicle Dynamics LLC is his new venture. Mero uploads content to the Facebook Page, which includes photos of his laps around ‘Rings with various ‘Vettes throughout the years.

ZR1s Watching The ‘Ring’:

One photo shows a C7 Corvette ZR1 in red. It has a text that confirms a lap time at 7:04 minutes. This car looks very similar to the red ZR1 seen around the track last May. According to Mero, the car could perform even better, but the driver was “forced” to start the lap with cold tires.

Mero has also completed other Nurburgring runs, including a 7-minute ride onboard a C7 Corvette Z06 and 7-19 minutes behind a ZR1 of the previous generation. Here is a complete list of Mero’s attempts to track the Corvette models.

  • 7:33 – C7 Corvette Stingray Z51 (S)
  • 7:27 – C7 Corvette Grand Sport
  • 7:26 – C6 2009 Corvette ZR1
  • 7:22 – C6 2012 Corvette Z06
  • 7:19 – C6 2012 Corvette ZR1
  • 7:10 – C7 Corvette Z06
  • 6:57 – C7 Corvette ZR1 (S)

In a few weeks, Mero will hold a seminar at NCM Bash. He will also reveal details about his ZR1 race around the circuit.
