It’s not surprising that the X2 will eventually lose its roof.
Range Rover Evoque Convertible: Watch out! A report that suggested the possibility of a droptop was published at the start of the year. Now, a BMW official has suggested that such a niche model in the form of a roofless high-riding vehicle might be on the horizon. Ralph Mahler, BMW’s director for product planning and strategy was asked by Digital Trends to give his thoughts on a convertible SUV. His response? His answer Although this doesn’t necessarily mean that the X2 or any other BMW model will lose their roof in the future, Mahler’s statement shows that the company is open to the idea. Anything is possible in today’s world where the Nissan Leaf has been converted into a convertible (one-off idea, thankfully).
BMW is currently busy with its X7 flagship SUV, which will arrive later in the year. We’ll also see the new X5. Rumours have already circulated about the possibility that an X8 could be on the horizon. This is allegedly due to arrive in 2020. The X3 and X4 will spawn full-fledged M versions, so a convertible SUV is unlikely to be high up on BMW’s priority list. Be aware that a Bavarian droptop SUV could be on the horizon if it is based on a front wheel-drive platform. It didn’t end with the FWD-based 2 Series Active Tourer, Gran Tourer minivans, so the world won’t end if BMW decides to pursue the convertible Evoque.
