Corvette C8 Exterior Designer Explains Challenges Of Making Sleek Shape

It was difficult to package some of the components.

The styling of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette appears to have been a huge hit with the general public as well as Corvette owners. The model’s exterior was designed by Kirk Bennion, and published a conversation with him about the difficulties and triumphs.

Aerodynamics play an important role in keeping the car stable at all speeds. In the interview, Bennion stated that it is easy to see how aerodynamics influence the body shape. The body ridges direct airflow to the cooling inlets and around the body. This vehicle is stable thanks to cooling and downforce.

Packaging challenges included incorporating heat exchangers in the front and back without compromising aerodynamics. They also needed to fit into an area with sufficient airflow to function. Bennion said that it took them a lot of time to find the right spot.

To create the C8’s design, the design team combined clay models with computer-aided design. We didn’t leave any stone unturned, and we constantly questioned ourselves if there was a better or more unique car than the one that was before us. Bennion stated that the car should look like a Corvette.

An earlier report stated that the design team had considered giving the C8 a split-rear window to pay tribute to the styling of the 1963 Corvette. The developers rejected the idea because it seemed forced. Instead, the developers came up with something more subtle. The roof lines would follow the engine cover, leading to the Stingray emblem.

The C8 Corvette is currently on a nationwide dealer tour . The first production examples will be available in showrooms by the end of this year. The full pricing information for the model will be available shortly.
