Is there a mid-engine Cadillac on the horizon?
Photos of a unique key fob were published in November 2013. This led to speculation within the automotive industry. One person took photos of a key fob with silhouettes of what looked like a mid-engine car, similar to the 2020 Chevy corvette. This combination was unusual and internet speculators thought it was proof ! A new report from GM Authority has closed that door.

The publication claims that the story of how the Cadillac logo got on a C8 Corvette Key is much less interesting than the secret Mid-Engine Cadillac Program. One month after photos of the key fob were published, there was a report that the Corvette would be delayed because of a ” major electric issue”. General Motors’ new Global-B electronic architecture was used halfway through the C8 Corvette design process. This architecture is designed for electric vehicles and autonomous driving systems.
Only other GM vehicle to use the automaker’s Global B electronic structure at that time? The Cadillac CT5. Before GM produced Corvette-specific fobs, engineers reused the Cadillac key fob.
Rumours of a Cadillac riding on a C8 platform are not dead. Another report, citing anonymous GM sources, stated that Corvette could be a brand of vehicles rather than a single model. A Cadillac-based Corvette was one of the vehicles. It’s natural that a Corvette-based Cadillac would use the same mid engine layout as the Corvette.
Here are the keys to success:
Engineers had to deal with many headaches when moving the 2020 Corvette’s electrical structure to GM’s Global B design. However, they were able solve them in a matter of months. There was also speculation that a mid-engine Cadillac was in the works. This report does not discredit one internet rumor source but there are many others who still hope for a mid-engine Cadillac.
