Talk about a tease.
In 2009, Chevy unveiled the Corvette Stingray Concept at the Chicago Auto Show to celebrate the 50th anniversary for Stingray racers. It was a promotional tie in with Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. It challenged GM designers to combine classic Corvette design elements with modern styling techniques. Although the concept didn’t result in a production vehicle, some people still dream about a 60th anniversary Stingray.
Dejan Hristov created a 60th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept. It comes in three versions: coupe, convertible, or racer. The 2009 Stingray Concept’s design is stunning in all three versions. The Corvette’s vintage proportions, long hood and short rear deck are preserved. The coupe is a simple design, but the convertible and racer are quite different.
Combining the convertible’s sloped windshield with its rolled-up side windows, it looks almost like a Hot Wheels vehicle. The racer does not have a windshield and instead uses an exposed cabin, which is reminiscent of the Corvette Stingray Racer Concept car, designed by Bill Mitchell, Pete Brock, and Larry Shinoda in 1959. It is fast standing still.
Unfortunately, it is only a concept design. You can still use your imagination to create the powertrain. Although it could be a hybrid powertrain similar to the 2009 concept, a standard V8 engine would work with the quad exhaust tips. It doesn’t matter what powertrain it has, the aesthetics of the concept will not change. This would be a wonderful tease of what a next-generation front-engine Corvette might look like if Chevy didn’t move to a mid-engined Corvette. But we won’t know the future.
