Although it’s not a race car, it looks great.
Corvette Racing enjoyed a great weekend at the 2021 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Motorsports enthusiasts will be familiar with this. The big news was the fact that the C8.Rs placed first and second in GTLM, but that wasn’t the end for Daytona International Speedway. Nigel Scott Dobbie captured a possible production version under the grandstands of the C8 Stingray R.
This is not the first time that a Stingray R has been seen out in the open. Keen readers will be aware. A Stingray R C8 was spotted at Road America’s August 2020 IMSA race. However, nobody noticed it. It was photographed alongside the C8.R, but it flew unnoticed. What was it that made the difference?
The two-tone hood stripe with the Corvette Racing logo – also known as the Jake Skull – immediately caught the eye. The alpha version followed a similar pattern, with red sideview mirrors and Stingray R insignias on the body panels.
The most recent version looks almost identical, with the obvious exception that the base color of the newer version is red and not white. The only differences visible to the naked eye are slightly different logo placements, and the absence of the jakeske skull on wheels. Perhaps Corvette Racing’s Take no prisoners motto was too shocking and frightening for the production market. The world might never find out.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that the Stingray R Package is still not available in the official configurator. However, it’s clear that delivery is one step closer. Although it won’t transform your car into Jordan Taylor’s racecar, it will certainly boost the C8.
