The LT6 engine is a unique one.

The Chevy V8 engine, the Chevy L6 V8 is a class apart. The new LT6 is unique in that it doesn’t share any parts with Chevy’s other V8 engine. GM’s V8s are known for their history of sharing parts. This allows them to amortize development costs while maintaining long-standing designs. The current lineup of Corvette C8 Z06’s LT6 v8 Corvettes was not good enough.

Let’s start by saying that we love all Chevy’s LT V8 engines which have been a staple of the enthusiast community for decades. These powerful, reliable engines have found their way into some of GM’s most iconic products, from trucks to sports sedans. Chevy’s new C8 Corvette mid-engine engine was a big hit with enthusiasts who hoped for a powerful V8 to power the Z06 track-focused Z06 model. Chevy delivered.

The 5.5-liter LT6 V8 engine, a dual-overhead cam 5.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, produces 670 horsepower (624 Newton Meters). It also produces 460 lb/ft (624 Newton meters) of torque. The powerful flat-plane crank V8 can rev to 8,600rpm, making it worthy of an exotic supercar. This engine was developed through extensive testing and powering the Corvette C8.R racecar.

Chevy abandoned its old ways and created a completely new engine design to achieve the supercar-shaming performance it wanted. This engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 ever made. The C8 Corvette Z06 is the continuation of Vette’s tradition, offering high-performance performance in an affordable package. The new C8 Z06 promises to be a categorical improvement on almost all of its European counterparts.
