Could this GM Sketch Be An Electric Corvette SUV Preview?

Could this GM Sketch Be An Electric Corvette SUV Preview? The more important question is: Should GM go ahead with this idea?

General Motors Design on Instagram (@generalmotorsdesign) has shared an interesting sketch of what seems to be a high-riding crossover. Although it retains GM’s current design language details, we believe that this is an EV crossover. The black boomerang at the side is reminiscent of the Chevy Corvette C8. This is a preview for an electric Corvette SUV.

Well, no. We are used to seeing sketches and design studies posted on Instagram by General Motors Designs. They are often just that – sketches and studies of imagination.

Jason Chen (@macotodesign) created this rendering. He is a creative designer at GM, according to Instagram and Linkedin.

A Corvette electric crossover is not a new idea. As early as 2019, rumors of an independent Corvette brand that includes an SUV and a sedan were reported. These reports reportedly came from a variety of unnamed GM insiders.

A Bloomberg report stated that GM has already begun work on an electric Corvette SUV in 2021. This will mark the beginning of Corvette as a family performance vehicle, similar to Ford’s Mustang Mach–E. Although the sources were not named, it appears that they knew about the matter.

Sources also revealed that several Corvette-brand vehicle concepts are being developed by GM designers. The vehicle could be released as soon as 2025, according to previous reports.

At this stage, nothing is certain. We will see if Chen’s rendering of the model would be used to inspire the production version. Purists will not be pleased with the idea of a Corvette that can go fast. However, unit sales are another matter.
