Craigslist will allow you to sell your car starting April 15th at $5
According to Track, Craigslist will start charging a $5 listing fee per car starting Monday, April 15. It could be the end of an era, or the beginning of a new one depending on how you view it.
Craigslist has been a trusted source for project cars since the beginning. The news is quite surprising. Craigslist has always been about providing a simple and easy-to-use service for classified ads at no cost to users.
Craigslist Car Buying Stories
Craigslist is expensive. It makes sense to charge a small fee for cars, as they are the most popular and expensive items on Craigslist. Some might feel it unfair that sellers of cars are charged, while others are not.
A $5 listing fee will help to weed out scams and spam, which unfortunately are all too common on Craigslist. It is common for unscrupulous car dealers to list their “owner” items in the “owner section. This makes it difficult to find what you really want.
This could be because dealers already pay a fee to list cars on Craigslist. The new rule might reduce that annoying behavior. This will make it easier to find new project cars below $2,000, provided that the sellers do not discontinue using the service.
We expect quality ads to improve but we have no faith it will actually happen. We are certain that portrait-mode photos showing a blurry corner will continue to be successful despite misspelled descriptions and thumbs covering the license plates.
If you don’t wish to pay the fee there is always the less-user-friendly Facebook marketplace where some deals are available. However, it won’t replace Craigslist.
