The Impala driver sustained only minor injuries.
Remember the Mythbusters episode in which the team tried to cut a car in half using a huge snowplow? Although it was believed that such a collision would cut a car in half, after much testing, it proved impossible. The vehicle of choice to perform such a split is not a large plow with sharp blades, but a full-size Toyota Sequoia utility vehicle.
According to the Press Democrat, the amazing accident took place on May 14th, near Cloverdale in California. Kevin Fenty, 27, was driving north in his Toyota when he crossed the center line and hit 26-year-old Apol Lansang with her Chevrolet Impala head on.
Or, rather, the impact was mostly front-on. The collision caused the Impala to literally shatter in half, completely cutting off the driver’s side of the passenger compartment and most of the unibody. The front end and engine appear to be intact, but the roof and all that is behind it are gone. There were no passengers in the car.
Fenty was thrown out of his SUV after the impact sent the Sequoia’s front clip back into the passenger compartment. Fenty was thrown from the SUV, even though he drove the larger vehicle which wasn’t torn apart. He sustained moderate injuries. It is amazing that anyone can survive such a collision without serious injury.
Before you watch the video, be aware that the damage done to the vehicles can cause distress. However, Fenty is being treated and there is some blood on his face so take care.
Although the exact cause of the accident is still being investigated, drugs are suspected to have played a role. We are keen to know more about the collision and how it happened. General Motors may be interested, as cars don’t usually freaking tear in two unless there is something truly catastrophic.
