This is not the best way to exit the highway.
This is one of those videos, friends. It leaves us with more questions than answers. Let’s start by revealing what we know. The clip is from ViralHog and shows a black Cadillac Escalade taking full Grand Theft Auto off of a highway embankment. The incident occurred in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada’s capital. According to the video description, the driver was not injured. This is some good news.
We are still scratching our heads about the rest. We’re way above that. We can only offer one explanation for this clip, having seen it many times. The SUV lost control and crossed the median. It then launched up both lanes. Finally, it shuffled down to the intersection, narrowly avoiding the overpass. The Escalade’s front suspension is given an unwelcome position.
We would expect the three-ton Caddy at that point to slow down, but it doesn’t. It rolls into the intersection as if nothing had happened and then appears to accelerate away. The clip’s best moment is a few seconds later, when we see a thumb hovering on the screen for a brief moment. This is followed by the chirp that saves the moment. That moment is definitely worth preserving.
We tried to find more information, but we were unsuccessful. One commenter suggested that the Caddy’s front suspension had been damaged prior to the horror. It’s not a bad theory. It is clear that the front wheel on the driver’s side is not in its right place before it descends the hill. It could have pulled the SUV to the left if a steering arm or tie rod had come loose on the driver’s side. This damage could have occurred when the Escalade sped through the median. Although the road surface isn’t icy, it was at least wet.
In any event, the Cadillac was able to cross traffic on the highway, avoid an overpass, slide down steep hills, and pass all other cars at a four-way intersection, without inflicting any injuries or damage. We are happy that the driver was safe and we wish we could be as fortunate should anything unexpected happen on future road trips.
