Spanish hot hatch confirmed with PHEV powertrain

The new Cupra Leon will make its debut in the world on February 20, after countless spy photographs. The Spanish sports car brand is part of the VAG family, SEAT. They have just released details about their hot hatch.

Cupra will unveil the first Leon ever to sport the Cupra badge in its garage as a standalone marque. The vehicle is “dedicated to setting standards in many ways” and will be available in both. The automaker confirmed that the new performance Leon would be the first model to come with a plug-in hybrid engine. Griffiths announced last year that the PHEV system would combine a turbo engine of 1.4-liters with an electric motor to produce a total output of 241 horsepower (180 megawatts). This same mill will be used in the new Octavia RS iV.

The new Cupra Leon was designed to be a benchmark in its segment. It will feature a powerful electrified motor, but it will also benefit from stiffer suspension, larger brakes and tweaked steering.
