Czinger 21C Hypercar Launches with 2.88-Liter V8, 268 MPH Top Speed

Two electric motors are used to produce 1,233 horsepower in the V8.

California-based Czinger Vehicles Inc. has unveiled the 21C hypercar after a thrilling teaser campaign. The hybrid beast, which features tandem seating as Yamaha OX99-11 Concept, is set to dominate the performance car market. It comes with juicy specs and a body that’s both road- and track-friendly.

What does the 21C share with the Ferrari 288 GTO, the Ferrari 288 GTO, and the Porsche 911 GT3? Chevrolet Corvette C8.R ? It is powered by the 2.88-liter V8 engine. The combustion engine is mounted in the middle and has a pair of turbochargers. It can rev up to 11,000 RPM and is linked with a seven-speed sequential transmission gearbox.

This engine is combined with an electric motor for each wheel, resulting in a total output of 1,233 horsepower. It also has an all-wheel drive layout. These electric motors are powered by lithium-titanate lithium-ion battery packs, which have been proven to be more efficient than other lithium-ion ones. These batteries are not used in every car. The Mitsubishi i–MiEV has a similar lithium-titanate battery pack to the Honda Fit EV.

The Czinger 21C weighs in at 1,250 kilograms (2.755 lb) thanks to the generous use of carbon fibre and other lightweight materials. This combination of high power and low weight allows for incredible performance. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h), takes just 1.9 seconds, while the quarter mile takes 8.1 seconds. The hypercar’s electrified motor will accelerate to a maximum speed of 268 mph (432 km/h) and complete the sprint from 0 to 186 miles (300 km/h).

It is remarkable that the 0 to 248 mph (400km/h) to zero run takes only 29 seconds. This is a significant improvement on the 31.49 second required by the Koenigsegg Angera RS. At least, that’s what it looks like.

Even lighter than the race version, 1,218 kg (2.685 lbs) but the modified aerodynamics that includes a huge rear wing optimized to the track to generate loads downforce reduces top speed to 236 mph (385 km/h). The road version can generate 250 kg (551 lbs), at 155 mph (253 km/h), while its rival produces 790 kg (1.741 lbs), at the same speed.

Czinger will display both versions of the 21C at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The company plans to make only 80 cars.
