Although this car has been rebuilt numerous times, it is still in good condition.
Let’s face it. BMW created the Sports Activity Vehicle moniker to conceal the fact that the X line crossovers it offers aren’t meant to perform the same tasks as real SUVs. We don’t doubt that these cars can tackle light-to medium off-roading in dignity. But, we think that this is the limit of what they could do.
You wouldn’t think that the X3, the crossover built on the 3 Series would be able to compete in Dakar Rally Racing. You’re close to being right until X-Raid introduced the X3 Cross Country.
The X3 Cross Country was completely rebuilt from a 2009 crossover model. It is a project of X-Raid, a German motoring group that specializes in rally racing like Cross-Country World Cup and Dakar. The X3 Cross Country, which is Dakar-specced, is ready to go anywhere and take on any challenge.
The X3 Cross Country is currently available at RaceCarsDirect.com. Its listing states that it has been rebuilt several times. The most recent is the one shown in the photos above, which was completed in June 2018. What upgrades did this rebuilt X3 get that made it a rally-ready vehicle?
Although we won’t be listing all of the upgrades, it is important to mention that this car was given a new frame to allow for stronger body construction. The car’s engine, drivetrain and gearboxes were also replaced. This makes it a sadistic rally car. The Press Release section below contains a complete list of upgrades.
The X3 Cross Country is priced at EUR260,000 (or $294,046 at current exchange rates). It has only 100 km (62 miles) remaining on its odometer after the final rebuild.
