Datsun 240Z gets modernized design for "The Love of the Z"

Do you like this new Z car design?

Before Nissan was what it is today it produced sports cars in the United States with the “Z”. The Datsun was the first. The Z car was Nissan’s ticket into America with its elegant styling, excellent engineering and affordable price. It didn’t take too long for Nissan dealers to have to endure long wait lists for the new halo vehicle.

This sketch is not a car. It is also not something Nissan revealed for a modern Datsun 240Z. This is a fan render, and it tells the bittersweet story about the Z car’s history. The Skyline GT-R might be the most popular JDM classic, but the 240Z is the one that started it all in 1970.

Marouane, also known As The Sketch Monkey, was one of those who fell in love the 240Z. He shared his process of creating a photoshop sketch for the current-day Z car.

Marouane used a gray 240Z 240Z base to apply what he learned from his master’s in automotive design from Italy in collaboration with the Lamborghini and Audi design teams. He is well-versed in the fundamentals of designing cars for large companies. This includes keeping in line the company’s design language. You can see his modernized version of the 240Z.

He also shared some tips and stories with us if we were to consider a career as an automotive designer. Make sure you complete all 14 minutes of the sketching step.
