Brown Lee Performance will construct 119 retro-themed pony cars.
Pebble Beach will see two Ford Mustangs sporting the famous blue/orange Gulf racing livery. Roush teased last week that a custom build would be made for a customer, but we have yet to see the whole thing. We have another Gulf Mustang, this time from Tennessee-based Brown Lee Performance. And yes, it is available for purchase. As long as you are comfortable spending $139,995 for a 2020 Mustang GT.
This is indeed true Serious A pony car can cost a lot, but the price includes more than just a traditional livery on a modern ‘Stang. Brown Lee Performance claims this is among other things. official Gulf Heritage Mustang was made official by a license agreement with Gulf Oil. It resembles the livery of the LeMans-winning Ford GT40 from 1968 and 1969. The Mustang is also branded Gulf, although we are disappointed to see that the GT40’s orange wheels won’t be part of the build.
Let’s just say that the Mustang doesn’t need power to live up to its historic look. The GT’s 5.0-liter V8 produces 800 horsepower (597kW) and can be driven through either the 10-speed auto or six-speed manual depending on how buyers want to handle this thrust. The suspension has also been upgraded. However, details are not provided except to say that it is a “lowered sports suspension.” It comes with carbon fiber front and side splitters, side sills, a Gurney lip rear spoiler, and a rear diffuser.
Brown Lee Performance is an outgrowth of Brown Lee Ford, Morrison, Tennessee. There will be 119 Gulf Heritage Edition Mustangs available. They will come in coupe or convertible trims and will all have a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty. It will make its debut at the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 18.
