Modified Euro-spec Fiesta likely features a 1.6 liter turbocharged EcoBoost EcoBoost engine with approximately 170 horsepower under the hood.
These spy photos show a Ford Fiesta modified to European standards, spotted on Dearborn’s streets.
Fiesta North America will get a hotter-hatch version sometime next year. This prototype could also be used by Ford to test the model.
This Fiesta mule is modified European-spec and fitted with Ford’s Titanium trim. It also has one of Ford’s direct inject EcoBoost powerplants under the hood. We don’t know which one. We do know that the Euro-market Fiesta ST had a 2.0 Liter Duratec engine with 150 PS (110.3kW/147.9 bhp), so we expect Ford to install a turbo or a turbo of its EcoBoost range into the Fiesta and give it a significant power boost.
A turbocharged EcoBoost engine of 1.6 liters would produce 170 PS (125kW/168 bhp). A turbo EcoBoost 2.0 would produce between 230 and 250 PS (169kW/ 227bhp or 184kW/ 247bhp). This latter option is also expected to be available in the Ford Fusion next year, but it is likely that the Fiesta will only come with the 1.6.
The Fiesta will still be attractive by North American segment standards, thanks to Ford of Europe’s “kinetic design”. An intercooler is found in the front lower grille, rear diffuser and double exhaust pipes. The Speedline rims are 17-inch anthracite Speedline.
Ford could just be preparing a model for the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November. This could be the closest thing to what Ford Fiestas will look like in 2011 when they hit dealerships.
