Open-roof driving is a possibility.
Convertibles can be difficult to use due to limited space. What if you could drive a car without a roof and still be able to take your family along?
Randy Grubb introduces the Decoliner, an Oregon-based double-decker. The Decoliner is a two-decker, specifically a motorhome. The Decoliner has a large cabin that can be used as a living area. Its heft complements its bus-like appearance. Grubb claims that the design is based on the 1980s science-fiction space traveller Flash Gordon. We think it fits in with the art deco architectural styling.
The unique styling of this motorhome is not the only thing that makes it special. You can also drive the Decoliner from your roof. option was specifically mentioned because the Decoliner can be driven away from sunlight from the cabin by default. If you prefer to feel the breeze outside, you can take the steering wheel off and bring it on the roof. It’s that simple.
You won’t find a cheap thrill from the Decoliner. Grubb spent 6,000 hours on the project over 18 months and paid $100,000 for spare parts. It was built entirely from scratch, using a 1973 GMC motorhome as its chassis.
Grubb was able, after much hard work, to sell the Decoliner at $500,000. It was all worth it? The new owner believed so. You can see the embedded video at the top of this page.
