DeLorean’s EVolved Displays Louvers and Wide Light Bar in New Teaser Video

It’s not hard to find something new.

Scott, you are amazing! Here’s a teaser about the DeLorean rebirth. The reborn DMC posted a clip of its new EV on social media. The EVolved, designed by Italdesign, features louvers that are reminiscent of the DMC-12 by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It features an LED light bar that extends over the wheel arches and stretches the entire width of the rear end, in keeping with the current design trend.

We are not looking at a production vehicle, but a concept that we will see at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later in the year. A subsequent low-volume production vehicle is in the works, and thankfully, without the weak V6 PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) engine of the original DMC-12 where it was mounted at the back. The EVolved will retain its predecessor’s gullwing doors, aside from retrolicious window blinds.

The wraparound light bar is visible in the video but it’s not shown. Two parallel lines of LEDs are visible, which is presumably for turn signals and brakes. Recent teaser images showed the company name subtly embossed in the lower corner on the rear bumper. This was complemented by the subtle illuminated “DELOREAN” lettering.

The new DeLoreanEVolved has a curvier body than the original. Even though the DMC-12 was only a temporary product, the early 1980s sports car will be remembered as one of the most beloved vehicles of the wedge era. The Back to the Future trilogy would have made the nostalgia far less intense.

Joost de Vries, DeLorean’s CEO, previously stated that the company would be a “full line manufacturer,” but the teaser here would not suffice to make it a viable business. The firm will then produce more affordable and volume-oriented vehicles. However, the head honcho of DeLorean resisted the temptation to say whether they will make SUVs or sedans.

August 18th will be the world premiere. In the meantime, three cars, representing the 1990, 2000 and 2010 DeLorean interpretations, will be revealed in the months ahead. De Vries made this promise about a month ago during a podcast.
