However, it won’t arrive until 2026.
Volkswagen’s Project Trinity EV was first announced in January. It would use a revolutionary electric vehicle architecture and a radical production process. We saw the first teaser image for that car in March. Now we have more details. A new report by Autocar sheds light on the Project Trinity’s production version. It will be Volkswagen’s flagship model, and will also lead the next generation zero-emission vehicles from the Wolfsburg-based company. It will be the first Volkswagen Group model to use the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). The vehicle will look like a mix of a crossover and hatchback. The report states that Volkswagen will sell the vehicle as a standard form, with only a few options from the factory. Customers will then be able to access existing features via software updates. Customers will have the option to purchase additional features and receive over-the-air upgrades.
The Project Trinity will initially be released with Level 2 autonomous driving technology. However, it should be upgraded to Level 4 through consistent software updates. The car should be able to drive itself on long highway journeys if the software upgrades are complete. Volkswagen is working on the EV to be its next technological flagship. It is expected to launch in 2026. However, it won’t be a premium vehicle because it will cost around EUR35,000 (or 42,300 at current exchange rates). It will be roughly the same size as the ID.4, but it will have a sloped roofline, and a lower profile overall.
