Rumours circulating about a new Bullitt version Ford Mustang seem to be true. Unnamed sources confirm to Automotive News that the model will be debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
According to Automotive News, the latest Ford Mustang Bullitt model year will see it arrive in 2018. This will be a fitting tribute to the Steve McQueen movie’s 50th anniversary. The cinematic pony car will be arriving at dealers in the first part of 2018.
Suspension upgrades are likely for the Bullitt’s new Bullitt. But powertrain changes are more uncertain. Ford has been able to squeeze a bit more power out of the V8 in past Bullitt versions. The current ‘Stang has just undergone a major refresh. Therefore, Ford might not have had the opportunity to increase its V8’s output beyond the current 460 horsepower (343 Kilowatts).
Rumours of a new Bullitt Mustang circulated for some time, but it got serious when someone saw a mysterious ‘Stang during a photo shoot in Chicago. The coupe was allegedly escorted by police officers at times.
Although the lighting was poor, the Mustang looked clear in the photos. It had the perfect combination of dark green and gunmetal grey wheels with polished lips. The rear end also featured a crosshair badge that was similar to the Bullitt Mustang.
A Barrett-Jackson auction provided further evidence of the upcoming model. It was a listing for a special new Ford Mustang, and the seller promised that the proceeds would be donated to the Boys Republic school. McQueen graduated there in 1946. Each year, the Friends of Steve McQueen car show is held at the school.
In Bullitt McQueen portrays San Francisco Police Lieutenant Frank Bullitt and drives a stealthy 1968 Mustang GT fastback with blacked out grille. The chase between the pony car & a bicycle takes about ten minutes. Dodge Charger This is one of the most iconic scenes in film history.
Ford’s first Bullitt Mustang was released in 2001. The Mustang was available in the correct shade of green and had retro-tinted wheels. The coupe was equipped with retro-tinted wheels and 265 horsepower (198 kw) from modifications to the intake and exhaust. This is more than the stock Mustang GT.
Bullitt was joined by another, even more impressive Bullitt in 2008 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film. Ford gave the car a blacked out grille and no pony badge to make it look more like the car in The Last Picture Show. The 4.6-liter V8 was equipped with a modified intake and exhaust, which produced 315 horsepower (235 kW), 15 hp (1 kW) more than the current GT.
