Dodge’s V8 supercharged engine is unbeatable.
Although the Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Corvette C8 are very different, these differences vanish when they line up at drag strip. The Dodge four-door family sedan comes with a powerful V8 engine that puts it in line with lighter sports cars like Corvette. The Wheels YouTube video compares the two cars in drag racing.
The Corvette has a naturally aspirated, 6.2-liter engine. It can produce 495 horsepower (369 Kilowatts) or 470 pound-feet (637 Newton meters) of torque. Although it’s not as powerful as the Dodge but it is lighter than the Corvette. Supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engines produce 717 horsepower (534 kW) as well as 650 lbft (881 Nm) in the Hellcat.
The Corvette completed the quarter-mile in 12.77 seconds, at 116.21 mph (187.02 km/h). The Dodge completed the quarter-mile in 12.43 seconds, at 118.78 mph (191.16 km/h). The weight difference between the two cars was equal, with the Chevrolet being about 3,535 pounds (1.603 kilograms) and the Dodge at 4,586 lb (2.080-kg).
Next, a Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye lined up alongside a mid2010s RAM 1500 R/T. A 5.7-liter V8 should power the truck’s engine, producing 395 horsepower (294 kW), and 410lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque. Redeye conceals a supercharged V8 of 6.2-liter capacity under its hood. It delivers 797 horsepower (594 kW), and 707 lbft (958 Nm), to the rear wheels.
The Redeye was able to go faster than the RAM by using its extra power. It completed the quarter-mile in 11.41 secs at 123.81 MPH (199.25 KPH). The Ram was not able to cross the line in 13.67 seconds at 97.02mph (156.14 km/h).
Over the past few years, Dodge has embraced its performance roots, introducing sedans and coupes with high-powered engines, as well as a drag car that is road-legal. This is a legacy Dodge hopes to keep as it transitions to electric cars. Rumours abound that Dodge will launch an electric muscle vehicle this August. We also know that the automaker is and will reveal something at the Woodward Dream Cruise.
