Dodge Hornet confirmed, should make its debut later this year

It will allegedly share its underpinnings and the new Alfa Romeo Tonale.

Many rumors have suggested that a new Dodge model, the Hornet, is in the works. Named after a 2006 concept, which was meant to launch in 2010, but the interceding years proved to be too harsh on automakers and the global financial system. The name is still in existence and will be used on a new Dodge product this year.

The Detroit Free Press Reporting is that Dodge Brand CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed the Hornet’s debut in 2022. It’s not surprising that this confirmation has been made. In February, Instagram photos were posted. The Hornet was reportedly revealed for the first-time.  Photos showed a portion the crossover’s interior and front clip. Alfa Romeo Tonale.

Rumours suggest that the new Dodge Hornet will share its underpinnings and the new Alfa crossover, which was launched by the Italian brand a few months back. Stellantis is a new merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Group. Both Alfa and Dodge are brands that make up Stellantis. According to rumors and photos, Alfa and Dodge will share more that a platform.

A Hornet rumor claimed that the model would be equipped with a PHEV engine. This setup is offered by the Tonale, which combines a 1.3-liter turbocharged four cylinder with an electric motor to produce 272 horsepower (203 Kilowatts). According to rumours, it would be a 2.0-liter engine. Alfa offers a turbocharged engine of 2.0-liters that produces 256 horsepower (191 kW) but it is not yet available for Dodge.

Kuniskis stated that Dodge might debut the Hornet in August, when it hosts its Roadkill Nights. This is also the Woodward Dream Cruise, which draws thousands to Metro Detroit.

The Dodge Hornet will be on sale later in the year. This is the first new Dodge product since the arrival of the current-generation Durango. We expect the Hornet to join the Charger or Challenger and that the compact crossover will be available in a few performance variants. We may see a Hellcat some day. Although it is unlikely, dreaming is possible.
