Conversion of Class 5 Ram 5500 Crew Cab included increasing fuel capacity to a total 170 gallons
Chrysler is trying to improve the Ram pickup’s image.
This concept is known as the Ram Long-Hauler. It is based upon the Class 5 Ram 5500 Crew Cab.
The modifications were extensive, and the cabin was converted into a Mega Cab passenger area with leather seats.
A lot of fuel capacity has been also added. The total capacity can now be increased to 170 gallons with the addition of a second frame-mounted tank and an optional third bed-mounted auxiliary tank. Given current gas prices in the U.S., that means fueling up could cost around 750 dollars.
Ram Long-Hauler’s engine is a 6.7-liter High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel inline six-cylinder with 800 lb.-ft. (1083 Nm). The transmission is a six-speed Aisin AS68RC manual and the Ram Long-Hauler, a four-wheel-drive.
The total load capacity of the pickup is 37,500 gross combined weight rating (GCWR). This is quite an upgrade to a one-ton pickup.
The entire thing is supported by a Kelderman air suspension, and 19.5-inch Alcoa aluminum tires.
Additional amenities include Wi Fi capability, a laptop storage space and a safe within the cabin.
