Dodge Viper GTS and SRT-10 Takedown at The Drag Strip

Spoiler alert! The Viper wins.

Vipers. We don’t get enough Dodge Viper videos, so this side-by_side drag race is truly a treat. We don’t have any information about the two V10 monsters, except that the white one is a fifth-generation GTS and the black one dates back to the third-generation. The third-generation SRT-10 was produced from 2003 to 2007, and the fifth-generation GTS completed The Viper’s 25 year run between 2013 and 2017.

If both supercars remain factory stock, the fifth-gen Viper would be the winner. The GTS’s 8.4-liter V10 produced 640 horsepower (477kW) at 6,150 rpm. In comparison, the older SRT-10’s 8.3-liter V10 produced 500 horsepower (373 kW), but a maximum of 515 horsepower (380 kW), as third-generation production slowed down. The SRT-10 is at a significant horsepower disadvantage to GTS, provided that it is in stock.

The question of traction is also a concern, as both Vipers channel power to the back via an honest-to-goodness six speed manual. The SRT-10 does not offer traction control and tire noise is clearly heard throughout the first half of the sprint down track. Dodge has added electronic assistance to fifth-generation cars. Having 640 horsepower underfoot in street cars requires some type of safety net. However, earlier Vipers such as the SRT-10 were still analog cars.

Which Viper will win this content? We won’t spoil it, but we know you will be able to see the results. While the GTS’s white color is clear, real-world action can have many surprises. Enjoy the sounds of Bald Eagles through 20 cylinders full of American greatness. We miss the Viper.
