Drag Race Range Rover Sport SVR Some Serious Sports Cars

Although the SUV packs a powerful punch, it is also very heavy.

There have been a few drag-race videos of fish-out-of water from Gumbal recently on YouTube. Now it’s time to see a new one. This round’s vehicle of interest is the large, in-charge Range Rover Sport VVR. It is certainly not a small car, but it isn’t an easy ride. The SUV comes in stock trim and boasts a supercharged V8 engine of 5.0-liters that produces 575 horsepower (429kilowatts) which goes to all four wheels. Land Rover claims it can reach 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. But is that enough to beat the German competitors Porsche, Audi, and HTML3_ Volkswagen Golf GT3_?

We have more to share about the Range Rover before we answer that question. The exterior has been given a makeover by Urban, a British SUV tuning company. This includes adding a lot of carbon fiber. It is not clear if this helps or hinders the large people-mover on straight-line runs, or if there are powertrain modifications increasing the SVR’s power. We will have to wait and see how this Range Rover does in racing.

The action is dominated by a stout Porsche 911 Carrera. An intense side-by-side drag racing between these two cars would indicate that they are both stock power-wise. And that’s exactly what you get. It’s difficult to determine which car wins at this venue because there aren’t any timing lights or elapsed time markers. For the big Brit to be still neck-and-neck against the 911 at one end is a win.

A 911 GT3RS is a more difficult car, even though it has a lot less power than the SVR. Hardcore Porsches are considerably lighter than the SVR and can reach 60 mph in three seconds flat. This real-life competition reveals how important traction is. It appears that the GT3 RS driver struggles to get power to the ground. The SVR has a chance with a sprint like this. We don’t know who wins the competition. The Porsche Cayman GT4 contest is the same. Watch the video and let us know who you think was first to the finish.

The Range Rover’s day is not all sunshine and rainbows. The SUV was paired up with an Audi R8 and the SUV lost every battle. Just when you think it’s over, a freaking Chevrolet Camaro comes out to play for some friendly fire. This vehicle could be the most suitable for drag racing, out of all the ones we have seen in clips from Gumbal so far. It doesn’t disappoint.
